Even if you are not among the increasing number of green entrepreneurs, you have probably wondered what will happen to human beings if we continue to pollute our planet’s air, water, and soil. Being environmentally friendly is becoming more important for everyone if we want future generations to survive.

So, even your business can celebrate Earth Day on April 22 by doing something special. Also, here are some ideas on how your business can participate throughout the year.

Idea #1: Financial support – donations are always welcome.

If you don’t have the time and energy to volunteer in local environmental projects and events, you still can help. Why not support local, national or international foundations of good reputation with a donation? For example, you can check which organizations specialize in green projects, such as organic farming. Contact them to see how you can help them reach their goals.

When you do this, make sure to announce this collaboration and the noble cause you are supporting on your business and personal social media pages, your company website, and blog. As a result, you will not only support their mission but will improve your reputation as an eco-minded small business owner.

Idea #2: Ready for a new business?

Consider diversifying the products and services of your small business by introducing eco-friendly items. You could even start an entirely new business, related to a natural way of living. Here are some great green ideas, perfect for small business owners:

  • Natural cosmetics: With the level of allergies and skin problems steadily increasing worldwide, consider entering the organic and vegan beauty products market. From natural shampoos and body lotions to organic make-up and hair products – the variety of opportunities is impressive;
  • Organic food production: More and more people are concerned about the ingredients in the food they eat and the quality of beverages they drink. You could open an organic food shop or specialize in the production of natural food and drinks;
  • Recycling business: Let’s take paper recycling as an example. You know how important trees are for balancing any ecosystem. Unfortunately, too many of them are used in the production of paper. You can become part of the change if you start a green business, dedicated to preserving nature by recycling.

Idea #3: Make your office, warehouse, or small factory an eco-friendly environment.

It’s crucial to lower the impact businesses have on nature, especially those engaged in production and manufacturing. You can do this in many ways, such as:

  • Recycle anything that can be recycled – paper, plastic, glass, etc.
  • Find ways to reduce the amount of waste generated in your facilities;
  • Brainstorm how to reuse items for different purposes instead of throwing them away;
  • Invest in energy efficient products – choose those with a 5-star energy rating, because they consume less energy and last longer.

Idea #4: Support eco products & educate your customers.

Make special offers or provide bonuses and games for products and services that are environmentally friendly. If appropriate, start publishing advice and tips related to green living on your website, blog and social media pages.

Idea #5: Are you already an expert? Offer consulting services.

The range of consulting services related to a natural lifestyle is admirable – legal advice offered to eco-friendly producers, sales consulting, business plan development for green small businesses – your expert knowledge will be extremely valuable in many industries.

Idea #6: Go mobile - develop a green app.

A green app could be useful in many ways. Its purpose is to educate people while entertaining them. It could be used to announce local green activities, to give information on producers of natural goods, or to give valuable tips on eco-friendly living. You could also engage children by creating a game that will educate them about eco-friendly living in a fun and interesting way.

Idea #7: Embrace a more natural lifestyle.

Lead by personal example - join ecological events, such as tree planting in your city. If you have employees, make it a team-building activity that will be both fun and beneficial for the environment. If possible, start going to work by bicycle, instead of using your car all the time. Encourage your employees to do the same, and together you will make every day - Earth Day.

Remember, no business is too small to make a difference in the world. Thanks to eco-minded entrepreneurs our planet becomes a better place for our children and for us.
